A new marker, not far from a slightly wrong marker...
... this one. I forgot I'd placed it until I saw the photo.
A search is required.
The journey to the winter solstice sunset is, like the summer solstice western route, over undulating, forested land. I mentioned in the previous post that I had made a mistake in navigation between the two last markers. On inspection, the error had occurred earlier. The pine cone in the top photo here is a reworking of the third marker. The earlier marker (orange golf ball) can be seen in its wrong location in the second photo. I forgot that I had placed it, and now have the challenge of re-finding it. One of the pleasures of the project is finding things - or not finding them and wondering what happened, as occurred with the two brightly coloured lego blocks from the summer solstice path.
On a protruding broken branch, a pleasing bi-coloured rubber ball,
looking west across a relatively clear area of the route.
Looking back, eastward, this photo shows the surfboard wax ball that was lost in January, found
and marking the route near the edge of the Big Gulch (my place name).
The route line in the photo above crosses very close to another project of mine, but not through it. I had hoped to travel closer, but there is no cheating in this game...
A rubber ball that was previously used in the Golf Ball City project, re-employed in the branch of a callitris tree. Callitris are both useful because of their straight nature and convenient branches for placing things in,
but also often seriously block the view forward becaue they have bushy branches close to the ground.
Finally I got to climb a tree. On the Path Between the Creeks. "Creeks" is an aspirational term here,
as water only occupies them immediately after rain.
The toy arrow, redeployed in the last location visited on this occasion.
From here on I hope the route will be easier to walk, as it climbs steadily.
The series of photos above shows my progress so far. The top of the ridge, point where the sun set, is visible from this point.
