(Probably) the point on the ridge where I saw the sun go down on the summer solstice 2019
Made it! An epic journey of 190 metres in a straight line. I never thought such a thing would bring a sense of achievement.
This panorama attempts to depict the whole scene from the sunset point.
I did, however, discover that it is actually easier for me to walk in a straight line, even over uneven terrain, without navigation aids, than I thought. After weeks of sighting between coloured objects I tried it, mapping with the handy health app on my phone:
Ironically, the straighter part of the mapped line is the part I had not previously marked. The deviation seen on the map means I probably ended up at the wrong place, but... that's for another day.
I also mapped myself walking the eastern stretch of the project, at least as far as was practical before entering someone else's front garden. Interestingly, on the way I passed over or near several markers that I thought were placed inaccurately, on this stretch, which I did not expect.
I was sheepish when I realized that I walk a straighter line without my simple navigation aids. This knowledge with make proceedings quicker when I come to map the winter solstice.
